Historically the food analyst was mainly concerned with the gross adulteration of foodstuffs. Today the food analyst will examine foods from a more positive position. This is due partly to the sophistication of the consumer who wishes to eat a more healthy diet and therefore needs to know the nutritional content of the foods and partly to the needs of the food manufacturer who has to produce foods within prescribed manufacturing limits.

Food laws have been developing over many years, from the nineteenth century to the present, culminating in a number of EC Directives. The Food Labelling Regulations 1996 includes information on nutritional labelling for foodstuffs which defines what manufacturers and retailers are allowed to quote on nutritional labels.

Our NAMAS accredited food laboratory offers nutritional analysis including both Group 1 and Group 2 testing schedules on a variety of foodstuffs including:

  • Cooked Meats
  • Uncooked Meats Pies
  • Groceries
  • Ready Meals
  • Alcoholic Beverages
  • Dairy Products
  • Soft Drinks

In addition to the above, we also provide the following analytical services:

  • Pesticide Residues
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Trace Metals
  • Food Additives
  • Volatile Fatty Acids

As well as being NAMAS accredited, the laboratory participates in external proficiency schemes (e.g. FAPAS) ensuring a high quality service.
